Keep delicate kit waterproof and shockproof

What is the YETI LoadOut GoBox 1? A near-indestructible, dust- and waterproof hard case with about a litre of room for keys, your phone and delicate small parts. Not built for big gear or for storing solvent-soaked cloths.

The YETI LoadOut GoBox 1 is the smallest gear case in YETI's LoadOut range, made from impact-resistant Defender-II plastic. That's a PC-ASA alloy that pairs the hardness of polycarbonate with the UV resistance of ASA. For you that means a housing that shrugs off drops and neither yellows nor goes brittle in the sun. Rated to IP65 and IP67, the GoBox 1 protects what's inside from dust, jet water and a brief dunk.

• Waterproof to 1 metre for 30 minutes. The dual IP65 and IP67 rating makes the GoBox 1 dustproof and good for a short dunk. Whether it's fine spray in the wash bay or a downpour on the truck bed, what's inside stays dry.
• About 1 litre of room, 0.77 kg of solid build. The interior runs roughly 19 by 10 by 6 centimetres. A removable tray and the silicone PackAttic in the lid keep your phone, cards and keys apart and non-slip.
• Defender-II shell, UV-stable for years. The ASA content in the plastic stands up to constant sun without yellowing. The same material goes into the big GoBoxes that survive years on pick-up beds.

Day-to-day from Detailing1: The biggest threat to the GoBox 1, as we see it, isn't out in the field but on your own chemical shelf. The housing is great against water, oils and polishing compound, but isopropanol (IPA, Panel Wipe), acetone, harsh APC concentrates and ammonia-based glass cleaners attack the plastic and, after repeated contact, set off fine stress cracks. So never store solvent-soaked cloths or leaky degreaser bottles in it. Coating bottles go in tightly closed and upright.

A litre of room for keys, cards and measuring kit

Inside, the GoBox 1 measures about 19 by 10 by 6 centimetres, so roughly a litre. That's enough for the car key, your phone and small, pricey tools.

In detailing it mostly ends up holding delicate measuring kit. A paint thickness gauge like the NexPTG or a PosiTector measures about 11 by 5 by 3 centimetres and drops easily into the main compartment with room left for spare batteries and a small inspection light. In the lid, the silicone PackAttic holds flat items like cards or a charging cable so they don't slide, and the removable tray below keeps the small parts separate.

The box closes with a push-button latch you can open one-handed; an audible click tells you the seal is under tension. You thread the supplied Tether strap, made from tough TPU, through the HitchPoint grid on YETI bags like the Camino, Panga or Hopper, or lash the box to the roll cage. Small, tough and honestly limited

A litre of room is small by design. The GoBox 1 is a safe for small parts, not storage for machines or litre bottles.

Two things are worth knowing before you buy. First, there's no pre-cut foam bed: measuring kit laid in loose will rattle on the drive, so wrap it in a microfibre cloth or use a custom-cut insert. Second, at 0.77 kg the box is heavy for its size and belongs in the boot or wash bay rather than your hiking pack.

Unlike a Pelican Micro Case, the GoBox 1 has no pressure-release valve. After a sharp change in temperature or altitude the vacuum makes it open a touch more stiffly. Rule of thumb: if you want to protect small parts and electronics, the GoBox 1 is the one. If you need to fit a polisher and care products, go for the big GoBox 60 gear case.

Who the GoBox 1 is worth it for

The GoBox 1 is worth it for anyone who wants to keep a few pricey items dry in rough conditions. Detailers, anglers, hunters and outdoor drivers are the core crowd.

In day-to-day detailing it's the waterproof safe for the things that can get wet but shouldn't: the remote key, your phone, the paint thickness gauge. If you regularly work in a damp setting, you know the problem of electronics catching splashes in an open bucket. Three colours to choose from: Charcoal, King Crab and Tan.

The one trick no manufacturer mentions: during the wash, drop your car key into the PackAttic in the lid instead of your trouser pocket. It stays dry, sits non-slip and you find it again straight away, no fishing for it with wet gloves on.
