Practical tip from Detailing1: The most common mistake in paint polishing: starting with too much polishing paste. Always start with the mildest product suitable for your problem. For light water spots and a dull appearance, BrilliantWax 1 is often sufficient. Only if the result is unsatisfactory should you switch to the more aggressive Polish+Wax 2 or 3. This saves paint substance and still achieves optimal results.

XTREME Ceramic Polish — polish and seal in one step

The XTREME Ceramic Polish "All-in-One" is the most technologically advanced polishing product in the XTREME range. The formula combines fine abrasive particles for scratch and swirl reduction with ceramic polymers that simultaneously build a durable protective layer. In practice, this means: you polish the paint, apply a ceramic sealant at the same time, and are finished after a single work step. No additional sealant product needed, no waiting time between polishing and sealing, no dusting on semi-finished coated paint.

The abrasiveness is fine to medium — ideal for swirl marks, water spots, and light scratches in the clear coat. For deeper scratches that go beneath the clear coat, Ceramic Polish is not the right solution — for that, you need the more aggressive Polish+Wax polishes or professional paint correction. However, for the regular home detailer, these light to medium imperfections are the norm: the clear coat dulls over time due to washes, driving wind, and UV exposure, and Ceramic Polish effectively restores this condition. The ceramic layer it builds during polishing then protects against new damage for several months — provided the surface is regularly refreshed with the Ceramic QuickDetailer. This is the principle of the XTREME paint system: one product performs two tasks, and the quick detailer maintains the result permanently.

In application, Ceramic Polish works both by hand with a polishing pad and with a polishing machine on a low setting. A small tip for hand application: apply a small amount of product to a soft application pad, work in circular motions, then remove with a clean microfiber cloth. No dwell time is necessary — the product works as it is being applied.

XTREME Polish+Wax and BrilliantWax — the classic polishes at a glance

In addition to the ceramic system, SONAX XTREME also maintains the proven Polish+Wax line: Polish+Wax 2 and Polish+Wax 3 are graded polishes for different paint conditions. Polish+Wax 2 is the medium level — for paints with visible swirls, slight signs of oxidation, and slightly more dullness than Ceramic Polish can remove. The abrasive particles are finer than for a clear coat correction, but more effective than an all-in-one formula. Polish+Wax 3 is the most aggressive level in the XTREME portfolio — for heavily oxidized, significantly weathered, or very scratched paints. This product can achieve significantly more visually, but it must be used with a polishing machine, not by hand, as otherwise the abrasiveness cannot be applied evenly and controllably.

The XTREME BrilliantWax 1 plays a special role: It is not a classic polish in terms of abrasive effect, but a combination of a fine smoothing polish and Carnauba sealant. The focus is on building a deep, warm gloss — typical for Carnauba-based products — combined with a protective wax layer. It is ideal for paints that do not need strong scratch treatment, but simply more intense gloss and protection. For freshly prepared paints after polishing, BrilliantWax 1 is the ideal final step, giving the already smooth surface the ultimate brilliance boost and building protection at the same time.

XTREME Paint Protection without a Polishing Machine — Spray Sealant and Protect+Shine

Not every paint care starts with a polish — and for many vehicles, it's not even necessary. Anyone with currently well-maintained paint that only needs regular protection refreshed doesn't need an abrasive polish. This is where the quick sealant products come into play. The XTREME Ceramic Spray Sealant is the simplest and fastest tool in the XTREME paint system: spray onto the freshly washed and still damp paint, spread with a microfiber cloth, and wipe off. This takes five minutes on the entire vehicle and builds a durable, ceramic-based protective layer that causes water to bead optimally for up to six months. No dwell time, no restrictions on the next wash, no equipment needed other than a clean cloth.

The XTREME Protect+Shine is a high-gloss spray sealant, specifically designed for maximum optical shine. It is the first choice for vehicles with freshly polished paint that already has a good base — here, Protect+Shine brings out the last bit of depth and brilliance and seals the surface at the same time. It can also be used on metal surfaces, chrome, and plastic. In daily practice: apply after washing, spread, done. An excellent complement to polishing, if the step without ceramic sealing has been done.

XTREME Quick Detailer — quick paint care between washes

Quick detailers are underestimated products for many detailers — yet they are one of the most effective methods to maintain paint gloss permanently and extend care intervals. The XTREME Ceramic QuickDetailer is the most modern product in this category: spray, spread with a clean microfiber cloth, and polish — done. It removes dust layers, fingerprints, light bird droppings, and fresh insect traces, leaving behind a fresh ceramic protective layer. This keeps the paint highly glossy and protected, without stressing the existing sealant. On the contrary: with regular use, the ceramic protection accumulates with each application.

The XTREME BrilliantShine Detailer is the classic version without ceramic technology — with a particularly high degree of gloss and a pleasant scent. It is the right choice for short-term touch-ups before a car meet or a drive, when the vehicle needs to look top-notch quickly. Less focused on long-term protection, but unsurpassed in its immediate effect on the paint. Both quick detailers complement each other well in practice: in everyday use, the Ceramic QuickDetailer for building protection, and for special occasions, the BrilliantShine for maximum optics.

A frequently asked question in the XTREME community: Can I apply Ceramic Polish by hand or do I absolutely need a polishing machine? For the Ceramic Polish "All-in-One", hand application is explicitly possible and works well — it is designed for low abrasiveness, which is sufficient to remove slight surface imperfections even without machine power. For Polish+Wax 2 and 3, however, we clearly recommend a machine: these products require uniform pressure and frequency of movement, which are difficult to achieve by hand, and the risk of uneven results or even localized overheating of the clear coat is significantly higher with hand application. A rotary polisher at level 2–3 with a medium or hard foam pad is the optimal combination for these products. If you don't yet own a polishing machine, the best way to start is with the Ceramic Polish "All-in-One" — it already gives very good results without a machine and simultaneously sharpens your feel for polishing. Important to know for everyone working with the XTREME Waterless Wash: This product is not a substitute for real polishing, but an excellent substitute for washing vehicles with light dirt, matte wraps, or in situations without a water connection. The Waterless Wash gently cleans without touching the paint surface — the product lifts the dirt so that it can be safely absorbed with the cloth. For wrapped vehicles, it is indispensable because it does not attack the film and causes no change in gloss. Also for quick cleanings at car events or on outings where no water source is available, the Waterless Wash has proven to be a practical solution for many XTREME users. It is not a polish substitute — but for its intended use, there is hardly a more flexible alternative in the XTREME range.

The Waterless Wash is also an ideal product for anyone who parks their vehicle under a protective cover or in an underground garage: If the vehicle has no real dirt residue, but only layers of dust or light fingerprint residue, washing with water is simply disproportionate. A spray of Waterless Wash on the microfiber cloth, once over the affected area — that's enough, and the paint shines again as if freshly washed. In conjunction with the regular use of the Ceramic QuickDetailer, this results in a complete, waterless care routine for everyday use that saves time and still keeps the paint well-maintained.

Which XTREME paint care product is right for your vehicle?

The choice of the right XTREME paint care product primarily depends on the current condition of your paint and your care goal. New cars with flawless paint benefit most from direct sealing: Ceramic Spray Sealant or Protect+Shine after the first wash, then regular refreshing with the Ceramic QuickDetailer. This protects the fresh paint and delays the first necessary polish by one to two years. Vehicles with light swirls, water spots, or a slightly dull clear coat need the Ceramic Polish "All-in-One" — it fixes the imperfections and seals in one step.
