Koch-Chemie Hydro Plast Care conditions plastic and rubber with adjustable gloss level
What is Koch-Chemie Hydro Plast Care? A water-dilutable plastic care concentrate that works as a high-gloss finish when used neat, and as a matte, original look when diluted 1:4. Not suitable for leather, fabric, Alcantara, or hot components directly after driving.
Koch-Chemie Hydro Plast Care is a water-dilutable plastic care concentrate from the Koch-Chemie Classic line that applies the same care base neat for a high-gloss finish and with a 1:4 dilution for a matte, original look. The solvent-free formula with a subtle vanilla scent protects plastic and rubber from UV radiation and delays new dirt accumulation because dust-laden air adheres significantly less to the sealed care layer.

- One concentrate. Four gloss levels. Neat or 1:1 dilution yields high gloss for tire sidewalls and bumpers, 1:2 delivers medium gloss, 1:3 provides satin gloss, and 1:4 achieves the natural original look for dashboards and door panels. One canister covers the complete gloss spectrum — eliminating the need for a second care product for the opposite finish.
- Inside and out from the same bottle. Cockpit, door panels, bumpers, wheel arches, and tire sidewalls can all be cared for with the same product. The formula is solvent-free, making it approved for interior use — no burning chemical odor on the first drive home after detailing.
- Price per liter decreases with dilution. 1 liter of concentrate yields up to 5 liters of ready-to-use care at a 1:4 dilution. This is enough for 25 to 30 complete cockpit applications, averaging around 45 cents per application. The 5-liter canister significantly lowers the price per liter starting from the second vehicle or in continuous commercial use.
Detailing1 Practice Tip: The most common mistake with Hydro Plast Care is spraying the concentrate directly onto dusty or greasy plastic. The care layer then covers the dirt instead of dissolving it — the surface looks fresh, but attracts dust twice as fast within a few days. Degrease with APC beforehand, wipe dry, then spray. This way, the care binds with the plastic, not with the layer of dirt on top.
Neat for high gloss. 1:4 for an original look.
Hydro Plast Care is applied neat to tire sidewalls and glossy exterior components. Diluted 1:4, it provides a matte, original look for dashboards and door panels.
The dosage determines the gloss level, not the application amount. The concentrate should be poured into an empty spray bottle or applied to a clean sponge. Apply thinly and evenly to the dry, degreased surface, allow to dry for 2 to 3 minutes, and polish with a microfiber cloth.
For a vehicle interior, calculate about 20 to 30 milliliters at a 1:4 dilution; for neat application on four tire sidewalls, 30 to 40 milliliters are sufficient for the complete set. For door seals and rubber profiles, use a 1:1 dilution and apply with an applicator brush; this keeps them supple without shining.
For the cockpit, we recommend 1:3 or 1:4 so that light does not reflect in the windshield and the instruments do not appear freshly oiled from the driver's perspective. For bumpers and trim strips made of matte plastic, work with 1:2. If you're preparing tires for a photoshoot, apply neat to the dry sidewall and let it soak in for 5 minutes — no buffing required. You can find accessories in the Plastic Care category.
Mix only the amount needed for the day, not in advance. Diluted solution in an open spray bottle will absorb air after 5 to 7 days and lose its gloss performance as the surfactant structure slowly separates. For commercial use, write the mixing date on the bottle with a waterproof pen and discard any leftover solution after one week — this is cleaner than "shaking the solution vigorously again."
For the workflow order: First vacuum the interior, then degrease, then apply Hydro Plast Care. For the exterior, after washing and before tire care. If you do tire care first and then treat the adjacent bumper with a gloss application, you risk overspray on the as-yet-undried tire sidewalls — the result will be streaky and not easily corrected.

Solvent-free means UV protection without chemical odor.
Hydro Plast Care applies a thin, flexible film as a UV barrier to the plastic. This slows down fading and embrittlement, which are typical for black dashboard parts after two to three summers.
Black plastic in the interior reaches surface temperatures of 70 to 90 °C in summer sun. Under this stress, plasticizers come to the surface and are broken down by UV radiation — the plastic turns gray, rough, and begins to creak. The care layer of Hydro Plast Care does not replace these lost plasticizers, but it slows down the UV reaction.
Because the formula does not contain traditional solvents, no aggressive fumes evaporate during application. The product is approved for interior use — no unpleasant odors on the first drive home and no irritation for people sensitive to volatile hydrocarbons. The protective layer noticeably reduces static charge on smooth plastic surfaces, which slows down dust accumulation between care intervals.
The clear limitations: Hydro Plast Care is not intended for leather — for this, Koch-Chemie has its own products with Pol Star "Po" and Leather Star "Ls". Fabric seats, headliners, and Alcantara also do not tolerate the concentrate, as the care film would stick the textile fibers together.
Allow hot plastic parts to cool for at least 15 minutes after summer drives, otherwise the product will dry streaky, and you will have to polish it off afterwards. If you prefer a silicone oil-free premium product from the Koch-Chemie Classic range and can do without water dilution, the Plast Star "Pss" is the right choice. If you prefer pure interior use with a ready-to-use dosage, opt for the Top Star "Ts".

For caregivers with a shelf. Not for once a year.
Koch-Chemie Hydro Plast Care is worthwhile for anyone who cares for multiple vehicles in parallel or keeps the same car in order on a weekly basis. One bottle neat, the same bottle diluted — one product purchase covers interior and exterior.
It is less suitable for occasional users who thoroughly detail their vehicle once or twice a year. A concentrate is only worthwhile for regular use: Those who dilute rarely lose the price advantage due to shelf life, as an opened bottle can become cloudy after about 24 months. In that case, a pre-dosed product from our Koch-Chemie category is the more economical choice.
A verified customer review of the 5-liter canister honestly sums up this assessment: Those accustomed to the ready-to-use Classic variant find the dilution approach an additional work step — for this user type, Plast Star "Pss" is the more suitable choice, not the concentrate. A second review from the 1-liter container, however, explicitly highlights its yield. Both feedbacks show: The dilution curve is not a universal advantage, but a work pattern that must suit your workflow.
The four container sizes cover different application profiles. The 1-liter bottle is the entry point for one vehicle and yields approximately 5 liters of ready-to-use care after 1:4 dilution — enough for 25 to 30 cockpit applications. The 2×1-liter set and the 3×1-liter set are intended as a supply for detailing enthusiasts who care for family cars, second cars, and seasonal vehicles in parallel.
The 5-liter canister is clearly calculated for detailers, workshops, and fleet maintainers, and significantly reduces the price per liter — when fully utilized at a 1:4 dilution, it corresponds to 25 liters of ready-to-use care. If you are emptying the canister commercially, fill the spray bottle with the amount needed for the day in advance and immediately re-seal the remaining container so that the emulsion does not unnecessarily absorb air.
Our strongest practical insight from our own detailing: Applying Hydro Plast Care directly after washing to slightly damp-wiped plastic saves an entire work step compared to solvent-based classic care products. The water-dilutable concentrate distributes more evenly on damp surfaces, as long as the surface is degreased and not dripping wet.
Store frost-free between 5 and 30 °C and use within 24 months after opening — this keeps the emulsion stable and maintains the defined gloss level throughout the container's lifespan. At temperatures below freezing, the emulsion separates, and the mixture can no longer be fully reconstituted by shaking.

Frequently Asked Questions about Koch-Chemie Hydro Plast Care
What is Koch-Chemie Hydro Plast Care?
Hydro Plast Care is a water-dilutable plastic care concentrate from the Koch-Chemie Classic line. Applied neat or 1:1, it creates a high gloss; diluted 1:4, it provides a natural matte look. The solvent-free formula with vanilla scent is suitable for interior and exterior plastics.
How do I dilute HPC for the cockpit and tires?
For the cockpit, use 1:3 or 1:4 to prevent the dashboard from reflecting. For matte plastic bumpers, 1:2 is suitable. For tire sidewalls, apply neat or 1:1 — allow to dry for 2 to 3 minutes, then buff with a microfiber cloth. More plastic care products.
What is the difference between Hydro Plast Care and Plast Star Pss?
Plast Star “Pss” is ready-to-use, silicone-free, and applied undiluted — easier for occasional users. Hydro Plast Care is a water-dilutable concentrate with an economical per-liter price, useful for multiple vehicles or commercial use. The Plast Star “Pss” is the alternative.
Is HPC suitable for leather, Alcantara, or fabric seats?
No. For leather, use Pol Star “Po” or Leather Star “Ls” from the Koch-Chemie Classic line. The concentrate is also not suitable for Alcantara, fabric seats, and headliners, as the care film would stick to textile fibers. Hydro Plast Care remains on plastic and rubber.
What happens if I apply HPC to hot plastic?
On hot components immediately after driving, the product will streak and then can no longer be evenly distributed. Allow to cool for at least 15 minutes and never work in direct sunlight — otherwise, you'll polish off the care product instead of letting it work.
How economical is one liter of Hydro Plast Care?
One liter of concentrate, when diluted 1:4, yields about 5 liters of ready-to-use care product — enough for 25 to 30 complete cockpit treatments or about 45 cents per application. The 5-liter canister lasts about half a year for weekly care of one vehicle.
Application of Koch-Chemie Hydro Plast Care
Dilute, apply, buff
Dilute the concentrate before use: neat or 1:1 for high gloss on tires and bumpers, 1:2 for medium gloss, 1:3 for satin gloss, and 1:4 for a natural original look in the cockpit. The dilution determines the gloss level — not the application quantity.
Pour the ready-to-use solution into a clean spray bottle or onto a new sponge. Spray thinly and evenly onto the dry, degreased surface, allow to dry for 2 to 3 minutes, and buff with a clean microfiber cloth. For a vehicle interior, 20 to 30 ml of a 1:4 dilution is sufficient; for a complete set of tires, 30 to 40 ml neat is sufficient.
Degrease beforehand with an all-purpose cleaner — this is the step that is often skipped and is responsible for the short durability experienced by many users. Without degreasing, the protective layer settles over the dirt instead of dissolving it, and the surface then gets dirty twice as fast.
Notes: Do not use on leather, Alcantara, fabric seats, or headliners — for these, there are Pol Star “Po” and Leather Star “Ls”. Allow hot plastic parts to cool for at least 15 minutes after summer drives, otherwise the product will burn in streaks. Mix diluted solution fresh and dispose of residues in open spray bottles after 5 to 7 days — otherwise, the emulsion will slowly separate and lose its gloss performance. Store frost-free between 5 and 30 °C. Use within 24 months after opening.
