Paint protection straight out of the wash — SONAX PROFILINE HyperCoat wet sealant

What does SONAX PROFILINE HyperCoat do? This pro-grade wet sealant goes on the car while it's still wet and rinses off with water — laying down a thin, hydrophobic protective layer on the paint that builds gloss and beading after every wash.

In a professional valeting business, it's never just about how clean you get the car — it's about efficiency too: every extra step costs time and resources. The SONAX PROFILINE HyperCoat answers the question of how to fold paint protection and gloss into the regular wash, without a separate drying, degreasing and sealing step. Being a wet sealant, HyperCoat is sprayed straight onto the wet car after the wash, left to dwell for a moment, then rinsed off with clean water. What's left behind is an even, hydrophobic film on the paint that boosts gloss, makes water bead and builds light protection against dirt grabbing hold.

  • Part of the wash — sealing with no extra step. The key edge of a wet sealant over traditional dry waxes and polymer sealants is in how you use it: on the wet car — after the foam wash and rinse — you spray HyperCoat on, and the final rinse spreads it and flushes off the excess at the same time. There's no full drying step before sealing. That trims the total time of a detail with a sealing component right down.
  • Beading and gloss after every wash. The HyperCoat formula carries polymers and hydrophobic actives that settle into an even film on the paint as you rinse. That film gives you the hydrophobic lotus effect: water beads off the paint in droplets after the treatment, carrying dirt particles with it and leaving barely any water spots. At the same time the polymers lift surface reflection and crank up the gloss — the car looks brighter after the wet sealant than after a plain wash with no care add-on.
  • A care cycle you run after every wash. HyperCoat is built for repeat use at every car wash — the protective film you build up is partly worn away by washing, and going on again after the wash renews it. That care cycle keeps the paint protected and glossy for the long haul, with no need for separate, fiddly sealing sessions. Ideal for wash bays and detailing shops that want to hand their customers an extra bit of care value after every wash.

Detailing1's tip from the shop: HyperCoat gives you its best result on fully cleaned paint — leftover grime, limescale and tar spots on the surface cut into how evenly the sealing polymers spread and grab. So wash thoroughly first, then spray HyperCoat on. When you work the wet car: go panel by panel, let it dwell briefly (30–60 seconds), then rinse off evenly — no rubbing, the polymers settle on their own. HyperCoat works on glass, wheels and plastics too, though on glass a separate glass cleaner is the better call for maximum streak-free finish. For cars with an existing ceramic coating: HyperCoat tops up the lotus effect in the short term, plays nicely with ceramic systems and works as a topper product after every wash. For the SONAX PROFILINE Spray+Seal as a spray wet sealant for large-surface jobs, the 5-litre drum is the way to go.

Wet sealant tech — how polymers grab onto wet paint

The way the SONAX PROFILINE HyperCoat works is surprising at first glance: how can a sealant grab onto wet paint covered in water? The answer is in the special make-up of the polymer emulsion: the active polymers in HyperCoat are suspended in a water-based emulsion and built to interact preferentially with the paint surface, even when a water film is sitting on it. The polymer molecules are lined up so their hydrophobic ends point at the paint and bond, while their hydrophilic ends point outward and stay in the water film.

On the final rinse, surplus polymer layers and the carrier water flush away — what stays on the surface is a single-molecule to a few-nanometre-thin polymer layer that holds firm on the paint. That layer is thinner and less durable than a dry-applied polymer sealant or a ceramic coating, but for regular repeat use it's a cost- and time-efficient alternative. Pairing regular wet sealing (after every wash) can deliver a care result over the long run that's just as good as rarer, more involved dry sealants — through build-up and constant renewal.

The hydrophobic effect of the HyperCoat polymers typically holds for several weeks before it's worth going on again. That depends on the conditions: frequent washing, heavy UV exposure and mechanical stress (driving in rain, automatic car washes) wear the polymer layer down faster than light use and sheltered parking. Day-to-day, the move that's proven itself is running HyperCoat with every exterior wash — a regular interval that keeps the protection working all the time, with no need to plan in separate sealing sessions.

Using HyperCoat right — folding it into a pro wash process

You always use the wet sealant after the car is fully clean and before the final rinse. Step 1 — wash the car: finish the regular wash (pre-foam, hand wash or machine cycle) all the way through. After the wash the car should still be wet, but with no real dirt load left on the surface — loose dirt particles would get trapped in when you spray HyperCoat on and make the polymer layer uneven.

Step 2 — apply HyperCoat: spray the product evenly onto the wet car. With spray bottles: panel by panel, top to bottom, about 20–30 cm off the surface with an even spray pattern. For larger vehicles (van, SUV) a foam sprayer or pressure pump gives you a more even and faster spread. Dwell time: 30–60 seconds per panel, where the polymers can grab onto the surface. Don't let it dry out.

Step 3 — rinse: rinse the whole car down evenly with clean water (hose or pressure washer on a low setting). HyperCoat spreads itself over the surface as you rinse, and surplus amounts flush off. After rinsing: dry the car (with a clean drying towel or a forced-air blower) and check the result. An even, light gloss and visible beading tell you the application worked.

In wash bays, HyperCoat can be folded into the automated wash process as the last step before drying — through dosing units or dedicated spray bars in the final rinse section. This use is especially economical, since HyperCoat can be dosed in bulk and the extra value for the customer (visible gloss, water beading) can be marketed as a premium wash service.

Where HyperCoat fits — when a wet sealant is the right call

HyperCoat is especially worth its weight in specific scenarios. Wash bays and pro valeting businesses as a premium add-on: the offer "wash + HyperCoat seal" is attractive to customers who want more than just a clean but unprotected car. The extra time in the wash is minimal, the value the customer notices (visible gloss, beading) is big — a tidy add-on service argument for lifting revenue per car.

Regular care for fleet operators: when a lot of vehicles have to be washed at short intervals, HyperCoat as an integrated wash finish pays off: no separate sealing appointment, no drying before sealing, no fiddly application process. The paint on the fleet vehicles stays in a cared-for state for the long haul, which protects resale value and heads off complaints about scruffy-looking company cars.

As a topper for cars with an existing ceramic coating: ceramic sealants lose their lotus effect over time while the actual protective layer is still intact. HyperCoat as a topper after every wash reactivates the hydrophobicity and stretches out how long the customer's impression of the ceramic coating lasts — without touching the ceramic layer itself or calling for fiddly ceramic refresh work. That keeps customers happy longer and pushes back the point of a full re-seal.

HyperCoat vs. Spray+Seal and dry sealants — the right seal for every workflow

The SONAX PROFILINE sealing range has several wet sealant and quick sealant products for different scenarios. The SONAX PROFILINE Spray+Seal is a similar wet sealant available in 5 litres for high-volume wash-bay integration — the more economical option for businesses with heavy vehicle throughput and a dosing system. HyperCoat in 1 litre suits smaller businesses and manual application better.

Against dry sealants (PolymerNetShield, ceramic coatings), HyperCoat sits below on protection and durability — a fundamental trade-off for the time saving. Dry sealants give you several months to years of lasting protection from a single application, while a wet sealant has to be refreshed after a few weeks or several washes. The upside of a wet sealant is its simplicity and the way it folds into the wash — if you're happy to run HyperCoat regularly, you can keep cars protected for the long haul with minimal effort.

For an ideal strategy we'd suggest: once a year a full dry sealant (PolymerNetShield or a ceramic coating) as a long-term protective layer, backed up by regular HyperCoat after every wash as ongoing care. That combo gives you both maximum long-term protection and regular top-ups of beading and gloss — the complete care concept for professionally looked-after vehicles.

Buying SONAX PROFILINE HyperCoat — sizes and usage advice

The SONAX PROFILINE HyperCoat comes in 1 litre. The 1-litre size is the right one for manual application in smaller businesses and for individual users — with a sparing dose (1–2 ml per panel) a litre stretches across plenty of applications. The wet sealant is ready to use and needs no diluting before you start — spraying it straight from the bottle or a spray vessel is the recommended way to use it.

For wash bays and large operations that want to fold HyperCoat systematically into the wash, we'd suggest pairing it with Spray+Seal in 5 litres for the more economical supply. The two wet sealants complement each other: HyperCoat for manual jobs and as a premium add-on in the hand-wash area, Spray+Seal for automated dosing in the wash-bay section. Together they cover a professional business's wet sealant needs in full.

Bottom line, the SONAX PROFILINE HyperCoat is the ideal product for any business or user that wants to fold paint protection and gloss into the regular wash with no added effort. The wet sealant tech delivers visible value for car and customer after every wash — with minimal time spent and strong economics in day-to-day running.
